I made this in my third year of undergrad in new england artist Ken Beck's abstract drawing class. I remember it didn't take me very long to complete it. One of the few artworks I have finished in less than ten minutes.

This is sort of like a cross between the drawing technique of R. Crumb, Richard Scary's fantastic hyper-colorful illustrations, and Pixar/Disney's Cars franchise. Try entering a K-mart in the summer of 2011 and not running into CARS merchandise at every turn. Boxes of macaroni, cake decorations, T-shirts. Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: That of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

This is a cross between the laboratory from the playstation videogame APE ESCAPE, DEXTER's LAB, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN's BORROWED EQUIPMENT, and the lobby of your favorite Las Vegas hotel/casino. Also maybe the laboratory of Crash Bandicoot's Nemesis character.

Mirage

That feeling that you get when you're lost in the giant blacktop dessert, and you think you see water and palm trees, but it turns out to be a mirage.

Title: Three Friends at a Field Party

Year: 2010

Medium: The whole kit n kaboodle, even airbrush!

Reasons for making this: delirious excitement that this piece would be the one that would break down barriers and change the world. Instead, it ended up to be a ubiquitous pop song tune that changed all of that. After that a wind swept through the valley, and the summer of '93 would seem like a distant memory. Some rocks allow you to hear the ocean; that specific trait isn't just limited to seashells.

This piece is partly inspired by a song by Avey Tare titled Laughing Hieroglyphic. Listen to it it's awesome.

This is the only remaining image I have left of this little gem. I know who has it, but I will not ask them for another picture. I can always make another one when I have time one my hands. Besides, this piece made me 40 bucks, and 40 bucks is not bad at all when your 19 and your bank account is lean. Notice the bluish green palate.

This piece is now owned by a wonderful patron. It is one of my favorite pieces from that era, even though by my working standards now the space is far too congested and the space is based on a hierarchical perspective that makes it look like a promotional collage of a Las Vegas on Mars.
